Can You Make a Difference?

Elizabeth Fanslow

They say we’re all here on earth for a reason.

Most people spend their lives trying to discover it by working endless hours chasing success, or pouring themselves into a cause that gives them meaning. We wear so many roles: son or daughter, husband or wife, parent or friend, creative or business whiz.

Often, it’s those categories that shape how we’re seen. But if you pause for a moment…what would you say is the reason you’re here?

Have you fulfilled it yet, or are you still in the process of becoming?

How will people remember you?

For me, I know this much: I’m not the center of anyone’s universe. I’m not the friend who gets surprise gifts for no reason or the person everyone calls first. And I’m okay with that…because what I do hope to be remembered for is simple: making people feel loved, seen, and special, even in small ways.

I’m a mother, wife, and a daughter. My impact may never be loud or sweeping, but it will be steady…small acts of love and remembrance, added up over time.

For me...that is reason enough.

I’d love to hear your thoughts…when your story is remembered, what impact do you hope people will say you made?

This reflection first appeared in my Substack, where I write about handwritten notes, kindness, connection, and the quiet ways we remember one another on purpose.
